Cutting Loose: One Medium Maximized
Sooo-z Mastropietro, multi-disciplinary artist, embarked on a medium eight years ago that had actually been with her all along, fabric. It would prove to be an unlimited resource of wild ideas and continues to inspire her. At age seven, she learned how to sew and with that came a deep respect for fabric and the desire to use every bit of it. By high school she was making and wearing her own clothes adorned with remnant tubed bits and making statements along the way. Always a bit of an outlier, she continued to embrace this signature application and when the time was right, she experimented using her tubes for fine art. Her 2-dimensional wall sculptures, 3-dimensional sculptures, handsewn kaleidoscopes of scraps, and wearables all offer unique treatments utilizing the same medium. This show is a collection of works spanning an eight year period demonstrating her range in this medium.
